Kmart and Macy's
Ok, so who's a bloggerland slacker (yes, it's me). Anyway, with our new appointment there are so many program opportunities and so much paperwork to go along with it I haven't had time to even read other people's posts. So, my question and insight for you today: "Why are we asking Kmart Corps to have the same goals as a Macy's Corps?"
Some may be thinking there's a corps in Kmart and Macy's? No, but think about it. Kmart is a big store, but still has great bargains. I wouldn't expect to buy a nice formal outfit at Kmart...why? That's not what they are in the business of selling. I also wouldn't find certain items at Macy's that I could find at Kmart. Ok, so I'm not just talking about shopping. Here's the deal...
Do we expect churches to fit a mold even when their community and history is screaming something else?
Are corps who provide several opportunities to minister to people any less of a corps than those who have 50 members enrolled this year (those are not exclusive...there are some corps that are both)?
Do we allow corps goals and development to fade under other umbrella goals of a movement (not that these goals are not well thought out or even prayed over...but is the mission being met)?
Do we allow corps and other goals to supercede our mission as The Salvation Army?
A lot to think about. Do you think that some corps are Kmart while others are Macy's (not better but different)? Do you think there can be one standard while allowing the corps to work out the mission in different ways?
